GRC Leak Test
Have installed the free version of firewall with the view to upgrading. However, run the Steve Gibson (grc.com) "leak test" and firewall failed to block it. The only programme to react was PC Tools Threatfire. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what is happening or why ??.

Either a mistake in the testing procedure, or a conflict with threatfire.
Could you tell what exactly happened, please?

Installed firewall, rebooted. Windows firewall checked and still disabled. Downloaded "leak test" and executed it. The only warning message was from "threatfire". Allowed process to continue. Firewall failed message. Suspended "threatfire" and run same test. Firewall message failed.

I ran "leak test" allowed the program to run and trusted it. The OA firewall pop-up was green as OA has the program marked as safe.
Did you do the same and do you have the box checked for "Automatically allow trusted programs to access the Internet?
Options -> Firewall

It was not listed as a trusted programme.

Try deleting the leaktest exe file, then it should be listed in OA's program tab as deleted. Delete the entry from the program tab, and try again. Besure when you get a pop up to allow it to run, not to trust it.

After the above, download a new test file and disable threatfire before running the test again.
Anyway that I ran the test, I received a pop-up from OA when the program wanted to run, and when it wanted to access the Internet.

Jamin4u thanks for your post. OK, I have it working now. I think the problem was I was downloading "leaktest" to the desktop and executing it from there. Last time, I placed it in the programme folder and with "threatfire" suspended tried it again. The OA now blocks "leaktest". Question is what happens with "threatfire" enabled ??. Well the answer is the firewall blocks "threatfire" and tells you so. However, nothing from "threatfire". So, I must assume OA is reacting first and therefore there is no need for "theatfire" to do anything. Any comments please.

Imagine security programs like a wire connecting a battery to a lightbulb. Blocking something is like snipping the wire. The first app "snips the wire" - meaning the flow stops, and the next app does not see it - and therefore does not alert.
